POLL: JOB.COM ASKS, “WHAT IS YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION?”
January 02, 2007
Fredericksburg, VA - January 3, 2007 - Individuals looking for a career change in the New Year, wish to do so for reasons other than the obvious, according to a Job.com poll released earlier today. The survey, conducted on Job.com's website from Wednesday through Tuesday, found 60 percent of respondents' New Year's resolution is to find a new job.
Additional findings were that 28 percent of the respondents do in fact desire a higher salary, while a surprising 17 percent would like to improve their working conditions. Only 13 percent indicated that they need better healthcare benefits, and a total of four percent, either, wish for a promotion, dislike their commute, or dislike their boss.
"It's extremely interesting to learn that we can no longer generalize the reasons for why individuals make finding a new job their New Year's resolution," said Brian Alden, CEO of Job.com, "Naturally people will continue to strive for a higher salary, a better commute and better benefits. What this poll suggests, however, is that people are seeking a career change for reasons less trivial. Perhaps Americans feel that they're being overworked, or aren't being challenged enough. Maybe they feel that their company's financial stability is in jeopardy. It may also be that individuals want to take advantage of the improving job market as we enter the 2007 year."
Among other goals set forth by the poll's participants, the road to a healthy 2007 will be taken by 18 percent of the voters, with 14 percent planning to lose weight and four percent determined to quit smoking. A mere two percent chose to become more organized this year, however nine percent decided to rid themselves of the burdens of setting good intentions altogether. The remaining eight percent of respondents have an unknown resolution in mind, as they selected "other" from Job.com's questionnaire.
The poll undertaken by Job.com on its website had a sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. The opinions expressed in this non-scientific poll do not reflect those of Job.com's staff.
